BIF and EVA
BIF stands for Basic Information Flotation. EVA stands for Ethylene Vinyl Acetate. Together they make BIF and EVA. Mr. Krueger, our math teacher and a former woodshop teacher, has helped us with the actual hands-on building of the BIFs, our buoys. EVA is similar to the outer coating of a pill. This substance extracts harmful chemicals from water. We use metal plates, cover them with EVA, and position three EVA plates onto a cage, which is connected to BIF.We decided to do some research and experiments. Our science and FutureThink teacher, Mrs. Teisan, has taken us on a few field trips to deploy our buoys into various places. On our field trips, we deployed three BIF buoys. One in Lake St. Clair, one at the Lake Erie Metropark, and one in the Milk River. Our teacher put the final one in the Ten-Mile Drain. We sent the plates to the University of Connecticut, and just got the results, which we will be posting on this website soon.
